We manufacture a range of shaped glazed fireplace tiles that can be used (among other things) for forming raised kerb edges for fireplace hearths, and stand alone fenders for fireplaces.
Edwardian fireplace hearths were commonly laid flush with the wooden floor level ( there were no fitted carpets) and a standalone fender was used both to hide the gap between floor and tiled hearth, and prevent stray embers escaping the fireplace.

What is the difference between REO and REX?REO has rounded edges on opposite sides of the tile. REX has two rounded edges. Getting the edge profile right matters as much as getting the size right, so if you are unsure, send us a photograph.
Why did Edwardian fireplaces have fenders?Edwardian hearths were commonly laid flush with the wooden floor, because there were no fitted carpets. A standalone fender hid the gap between floor and tiled hearth and stopped stray embers escaping.
