Description
Vitcas heat resistant tile adhesive, rated to 1000°C. Specially formulated for the long term retention of tiles around fireplaces, hearths, stoves and chimney breasts, where standard tile adhesive will eventually fail.
Why standard tile adhesive is not enough
Ordinary wall and floor tile adhesive is not formulated for the repeated heating and cooling that happens around a working fire. It loses its grip over time, and tiles begin to lift, often after the first winter and sometimes taking the face of the tile with them. An adhesive rated for high temperatures is not an upgrade on a fireplace, it is the requirement.
Where to use it
- Fireplace hearths, including quarry tile hearths
- Fireplace surrounds and tiled panels
- Stove and wood burner hearths
- Fireplace openings and chimney breasts

Frequently asked questions
Is normal tile adhesive heat resistant?
No. Standard wall and floor tile adhesive is not designed for the repeated heating and cooling of a fireplace and will eventually fail. Use an adhesive with a stated temperature rating.
What temperature does fireplace tile adhesive need to withstand?
This adhesive is rated to 1000°C, which covers the temperatures reached around a domestic open fire or wood burning stove hearth.
Can I use it for a wood burning stove hearth?
Yes. It is suitable for stove and wood burner hearths as well as open fires.
How much do I need?
Coverage depends on the tile, the substrate and how thickly it is applied. If you tell us the size of your hearth and which tiles you are using, we will tell you how many tubs to order. Email sales@c20fireplaces.co.uk or call 0161 429 9042.
Do I need heat resistant grout as well?
Standard grout can crack out of a hearth in the same way standard adhesive fails. Get in touch and we will advise on the right grout for your installation.
Not sure what you need?
If you are replacing tiles in an existing fireplace, send us a photograph and the measurements and we will tell you what tiles you have and what you will need to fit them. See replacement fireplace tiles.
